Behind The Scenes Photos

Blind 7 Photography is most known for their Dark Glamour and Conceptual Portraiture, owned and operated by Abe Robinson. With over 17 years of experience, Abe has been named the “Godfather of Dark Glamour”, with “A new vision in photography”. Blind 7 Photography is no run of the mill assembly line portrait studio. Abe prides himself on treating each client as a person; not a number or dollar sign, and carefully plans creative shoots tailored for the client.

From a young age, Abe has always enjoyed the arts. It was his silent form of expression, and distraction from the tortures of daily life. Art was a place to escape to, a world which he could be consumed in, a world with no judgment or restrictions, pure freedom. Photography was not Abe’s first artistic medium; he began with grave stone etching and sketching, on any given day he could be found out wandering the world with a set of headphones, paper, and pencil. His love of photography began one day when he set out for a walk with a 35mm disposable camera instead of the usual paper and pencil. In the beginning, he mainly shot graves stones and architecture. Shortly after taking an interest in photography Abe began photographing other subjects, nature, landscapes, animals, and finally macro. Macro became his preferred subject, and this was the spark that fueled the fire and began the journey to becoming the artist he is today. While today he mainly shoots people, Macro and nature is still his preferred subject. When time permits he is always out walking around, exploring the world with a set of headphones and a macro lens on his camera.

Being an artist, Abe was never one for rules and regulations. He by no means liked people telling him what to do, when or how to do it. He wanted to live life free and without restrictions, much like his art. School was an impediment for Abe, too much censorship and not enough freedom of expression. With the overwhelming need to be able express himself and be his own person, not the product of a child forced into a mold made by society, Abe never finished high school and began working on living his life his way; as an artist and business owner.

He is a self-taught photographer and business man, learning through his own research, trial and error. Abe strongly believes in continuing education, and says he will never be done learning, and will always spend time reading, researching, and trying new things.

Blind 7 Photography pulls inspiration from all walks of life and is not afraid to evoke emotions with his work, whether the emotions are good or bad. His work ranges from subtle to bold, elegant to unrefined. His work has been described as “colorfully silent” and “beautifully horrifying” and in many cases left the viewer’s speechless. Every piece has a message or feeling attached to it, but that message is for you to interpret. Blind 7 Photography breaks the boundaries of the imagination, and challenges the limits of the human mind.

The Story Behind the Name:

Each piece we create is designed to immerse the viewer in a sea of emotion, hitting every side of the spectrum. But how do you convey such an idea?

Welcome in the “discreet emotion theory” which assumes that there are seven core emotions: happiness, surprise, sadness, anger, disgust, contempt, and fear.

This theory states that these specific core emotions are biologically determined emotional responses whose expression and recognition is fundamentally the same for all individuals regardless of ethnic or cultural differences. The theory also states that certain repetitive emotional experiences during childhood can develop traits and biases that will govern interpersonal relationships during adulthood. Some scholars believe that these emotions have evolved in us as a way for people, regardless of communication differences, to predict what other people are thinking and feeling (Beck 2004). It was a way for our ancestors to tell the difference between friend or foe, and has continued to serve the same function today.”

We want our pieces to hit viewers on a pure level with no bias and no warning. To leave behind the obstructions that blinds us to the truth behind sensations.

Our goal is to open your eyes to these seven emotions that we are blinded from; and thus, on February 15th 2006, Blind 7 Photography was born. Opening the doors to a world where your imagination is no longer your limit.

“blind”

Verb, noun, adverb. Adjective

1.  Unable to see; lacking the sense of sight; sightless: a blind man. “

{“Discrete emotion theory assumes that there are seven core emotions and thousands of emotion related words which are all synonyms of these core emotions (Beck 2004). Depending on the theory the most well known core emotions are happiness, surprise, sadness, anger, disgust, contempt, and fear (Izard & Malatesta 1987). This theory states that these specific core emotions are biologically determined emotional responses whose expression and recognition is fundamentally the same for all individuals regardless of ethnic or cultural differences. The theory also states that certain repetitive emotional experiences during childhood can develop traits and biases that will govern interpersonal relationships during adulthood.[1] Some scholars believe that these emotions have evolved in us as a way for people, regardless of communication differences, to predict what other people are thinking and feeling (Beck 2004). It was a way for our ancestors to tell the difference between friend or foe, and has continued to serve the same function today.”-Emotions in psychopathology: theory and research Flack, William F.
